Picture the scene, you have just run a Google Search on your mobile phone and the most relevant page you have found has text that is far too small so you’re having to pinch and zoom just to read the text. And those beautiful images on the page that you are only able to view parts off without side scrolling across them.
This is a prime example of an un-optimised page and its one of the most frustrating situations for a web user. It’s also the number one reason that a user’s interest will be diverted towards another website, even if the content of the un-optimised site is much better.
Google’s Mobile Friendly Test – helping you to improve your website
Google is all about enhancing the user experience when it comes to web browsing and that’s why they started the roll-out of their “Mobile Friendly” label to their search results.
Pages are eligible for this label if they meet the following criteria:
- Avoiding the use of uncommon software, so that super fancy flash intro you have on your website won’t cut it anymore.
- Uses a suitable text size that is viewable without pinching and zooming.
- The content fits the screen that it is displayed on (Mobile/Tablet/Desktop) without any horizontal scrolling.
- The distance between links is big enough that they can be tapped comfortably.
