Here at Soapbox, all our clients are special, but no-one has a story quite as inspirational as Glasgow based visually impaired artist Jo Sunshine.

A budding artist since childhood, 16 years ago Jo was involved in a car accident that changed her life forever.

Losing all sight in one eye, and all but a misty blur in the other, Jo went through some incredibly challenging times over the next few years, struggling for employment and was homeless for a period after moving into Glasgow.

8 years later, Jo rediscovered her love of art, beginning by painting the walls of her home with vibrant murals inspired by the world around her.

After purchasing her first set of crayons, Jo discovered that she was able to draw just as beautifully on paper, and has never looked back since.

The black outlines and large vibrant shapes that are a hallmark of Jo’s work not only help her to see work more clearly, but also make for striking and eye-catching display pieces in any setting.

Jo has gone on to become an incredibly successful artist, renowned for the vibrant and bold colours used in her drawings, and has sold many thousands of prints to customers all across the world.

She even has a picture on display in the Ukrainian embassy in Bern, Switzerland!

Still based in her bedroom, right here in Glasgow, Jo’s home is a treasure trove of prints with more than 8,000 in her flat alone, not to mention the ones on the walls!

Jo has no plans to slow down anytime soon either, creating between 2-5 new drawings every single day, and recently sold 104 pictures over a fortnight’s exhibition at Cass Art Queen Street, often drawing in the window to the delight of passers-by.

Here at Soapbox, we are delighted and honoured to have been a part of Jo’s incredible journey through our specialist printing services.

Jo has also kindly provided us with superb prints of our city centre premises that provide a delightful splash of colour to our busy studio.

We look on in excitement as Jo continues to do fabulous work, donating a large amount of the proceeds made from the sale of her art to charities close to her heart including support for Ukraine, homelessness, and foodbanks.

Jo also conducts regular drawing sessions at Maryhill Burgh Halls, where some of her most stunning pieces are currently on display in a live exhibition, and hosts workshops with young people to help them get into employment.

We encourage everyone to check out Jo on social media where she regularly posts her latest work and to see for themselves what all the fuss is about!
